When you change the rules, you change the game. Inspired by the true story of MIT students who mastered the art of card counting and took Las Vegas for millions in winnings. It was all done in an attempt to win enough to pay for college tuition. A brilliant statistics professor helps the students with the numbers. The challenge then becomes how to stay ahead of the casinos.

CHARLIE CHAN IN RENO

Back in the day when Hollywood thought nothing of substituting old white men to act the part of Chinese characters, Sidney Toler as detective Charlie Chan is in Reno in a filmed “marital mayhem that keeps the interest tout when the action starts.” When it comes to the Nevada city that is the divorce capital, “happily ever after” may be the greatest tragedy of all.

CLINT HOLMES
A Night To Remember

The city’s own Clint Holmes performing live at Harrah’s Casino in Las Vegas. He sings 16 songs with passion, style and dynamic music in his amazing stage act. The energy and vibrancy is evident. This is one of many musical documentaries shot in Las Vegas and Reno with a variety of artists that show off the locations as well as the artists.

IMPACT

A powerhouse millionaire industrialist Walter Williams gets his board of directors to bend to his will without ever breaking a sweat. He has a beautiful young wife, Irene, whom he dotes on, and a seemingly perfect life together in San Francisco. Walt has business in Denver, and Irene accepts his invitation to go along and turn the scenic ride over the mountains via Lake Tahoe into a mini-vacation. At the last moment, she feigns illness, then asks him instead to give a ride to her poor “cousin” (ostensibly her aunt’s favorite nephew) hitchhiking his way home to Evanston, Illinois. The “cousin” is actually her lover, Jim Torrence.

RED LINE

The faster the race, the faster the rush. On the streets of Los Angeles and Las Vegas, daredevil drivers race exotic cars betting millions of dollars on the outcomes. Deadly crashes, kidnapping and murder move the story along. Only the fast survive. Some of the rarest high-performance automobiles ever raced on film are highlights of this Las Vegas themed movie.

THE ELECTRIC HORSEMAN

Sidney Pollack directs this story where Robert Redford is an ex-world champion cowboy in a suit studded with flashing lights. Astride a horse he rides into a Las Vegas casino. Jane Fonda is the love interest playing a TV newsperson willing to do anything to get a good story.

THE HOAX

An unbelievably true story of the man who almost pulled off the biggest literary con of the 20th Century. Faker Clifford Irving convinces a major publishing house that he has been asked by billionaire Howard Hughes to pen his autobiography. An elaborate scheme is concocted and a phony manuscript is submitted. From time to time Irving’s character retreats to Las Vegas and is shown agonizing about how to continue the scam without being caught.

VIVA LAS VEGAS

The city’s unofficial theme song. Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret tear up the screen with sizzling vocal performances and great dance scenes. Hoover Dam and the UNLV campus are co-stars along with the entire city of Las Vegas. One of Presley’s better movie roles and a tribute to the town he helped make famous all over again.
